The field of medicine is always changing. Midwest Podiatry Centers is proud to continue to find new and advanced treatment options for our patients. Staying up to date with new technology is how we continue to offer our patients the highest quality of care.

That’s why our team is proud to offer one of the newest and most revolutionary treatments for chronic foot and ankle pain, inflammation, and nerve conditions—MLS laser therapy.

MLS laser therapy treatment sessions can give patients who are struggling with chronic foot and ankle pain, sports injuries, and even peripheral neuropathy their lives back. MLS laser therapy can and will radically improve the quality of the care we provide our patients.

What Is MLS Laser Therapy?

The key concept is that lasers are focused beams of light energy—and that energy has different effects on the cells of the body, depending on the type of laser used.

The MLS laser, which is short for “multi-wave locked system,” uses a pair of synchronized lasers, each set to a specific frequency, power, wavelength, and pulse mode.

How Does MLS Laser Therapy Work?

The energy from the laser is able to go deep into the tissues of the body and stimulate a number of therapeutic effects. This includes:

  • Swelling reduction.
  • Temporarily blocking nerve cells to reduce pain.
  • Accelerating cellular growth and tissue repair.
  • Improving vascular activity.
  • Increasing metabolic activity.
  • Improving immune system function.
  • Improving nerve function.

MLS laser therapy is a great choice that frequently eliminates the need for surgery, even when other conservative treatment attempts have not been successful.

We also can use MLS laser therapy for nerve pain patients. The laser causes a reduction in the size of swollen tissues pressing on the nerves, replenishes the nerve tissues with oxygen nutrients, and will stimulate some regrowth of nerve tissue. MLS laser therapy has helped our patients improve their pain management, reduce their dependency on medications, and even repair some of their lost nerve function.

MLS laser therapy can also assist patients who have had surgery by helping tissues at the surgical site to heal faster, which in turn, allows you to recover and rehab faster.

What Is the Treatment Procedure?

MLS laser therapy sessions are quick and often require less than 30 minutes of your time. The procedure is non-invasive and completely painless. This means there is no need for any medications or anesthesia. It is FDA-approved and there are no known side effects. MLS laser therapy is a very convenient and a very safe treatment for patients!

The total number of sessions required will depend on your condition, the severity of your conditions and symptoms, and other factors that our team will discuss with you. Most treatment plans consist of between 6 to 12 sessions. The effects are cumulative and long-lasting rather than temporary, which means that many patients will begin to feel better after a couple of treatments and continue to improve throughout the entire treatment course.

What Does MLS Laser Therapy Cost?

As of now, no insurance will cover MLS therapy. For any treatment to be covered, there needs to be a billable code and there is no code for this particular type of laser treatment.

An MLS laser treatment costs $100 per treatment. The number of treatments depends on how long you have had the problem being treated. For acute conditions (having the problem for 6 months or less), it takes 6 treatments. For chronic conditions (more than 6 months), it takes around 12 treatments. These treatments are performed three times per week for either two or four weeks.

It is important to have the time to come in for these treatments for two or four weeks. This helps ensure we obtain the best possible result at the end of the treatment to get you back to normal quickly.

Is MLS Therapy Right For Me?

If our team believes you could benefit from MLS laser therapy, we will discuss it with you during the appointment and help answer any and all questions you have to help you make an informed decision about your care.

MLS laser therapy is extremely well tolerated by many patients and will help make a huge difference for most forms of chronic pain and injury.

If your quality of life is suffering because your foot and ankle pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, then, MLS therapy is just what you need to be able to return to what you love!
